Pain is our body’s way of demanding our attention…
It’s our body’s way of saying stop, take a breath, look here and see what needs attending to. If you don’t pay attention to the early signs, things usually get worse...
The trap: avoiding pain creates more pain
Humans are biologically hardwired to avoid pain and to withdrawal from threats. This is how we survived as “hunters and gatherers”. But now most of us avoid pain by not feeling our body. We wait until the pain is so bad, we can’t ignore it. When you resist and try to avoid pain, what you resist persists….
To put simply, by not wanting to feel our pain we make it worse. This is true for both physically and emotional pain. We hold our breath, squeeze ur butt, tighten our chest, twist our right shoulder, close our eyes… all in an attempt to not feel what’s there.
Working with physical pain in a Grinberg Session
1. Moving gently towards the pain and seeing what is connected to it
Uncover what's underneath the pain It doesn’t matter what type of physical symptoms you are experiencing, the only way to work with the pain is to gently move towards it and meet it.
In a Grinberg session we have different qualities of touch (earth, fire, water air) that allow us to help you meet pain in different ways. Sometimes we meet it directly, sometimes we gently work around it.
Once you start to move towards it, emotions, stories, memories start to emerge and when you are able to acknowledge these parts and give them space, you’ll notice the physical pain starts to change.
2. Working with the layers of tension associated with avoiding the pain
interrupt chronic habitual tension patterns In the Grinberg Session we also look at the habitual tension patterns that load in your body when you try to avoid the pain. These patterns are usually chronic and quite unconscious. You don’t know they exist and are playing out.
A lot of the session is about working with you to track the sequence of the contractions and find options to interrupt it and stop the pattern. This could be through breath and movement and sound etc.
Once you realise how you are avoiding the pain, contributes to it, you can start to train in your body to drop it.

TESTOMONIAL “After unsuccessful treatment with several orthopedists for my chronic neck pain and headaches, I was still searching for real help. That’s when I found Samuel Harder.
From the very first consultation, the questions he asked made it clear that he truly understood what was missing and how deeply my symptoms were connected to underlying patterns in my body. He explained the treatment approach in a clear and reassuring way, and we began working together right away.
After a few weeks of treatment, my neck pain and headaches haven’t disappeared completely, but they now occur far less frequently and with much lower intensity. Each session focuses on different aspects of the body and nervous system, and every treatment is delivered with genuine empathy, professionalism, and deep expertise.
I hoped for improvement — but I honestly didn’t expect results like this. Thank you.
