A child’s challenging behaviours are not the problem. They are communicating they need help…
Children express through their bodies what they cannot yet regulate, understand, or verbalise. Behaviours such as aggression, emotional outbursts, withdrawal, or extreme intensity are seen as adaptive responses to discomfort, not signs of a “difficult” child.
Rather than asking “What’s wrong with this child?”, you could also ask: “What discomfort is this child trying to manage, and how?”
Challenging behaviours and what they might mean
Children experience the world primarily through their bodies.
When something feels too intense, confusing, or overwhelming, their body responds first, long before words are available.
Seen this way, behaviour becomes meaningful information, not a diagnosis.
The role of parents: not blame, but support
One of the most important principles I work by is that parents are not the problem.
Parents are part of their child’s regulatory environment. When a parent is overwhelmed, triggered, or exhausted, it makes regulation harder for everyone. This is not a failure, it’s called being human.
A calm, grounded parent is the most powerful tool a child has.
Talk therapy vs Grinberg Method for children
Traditional talk therapy with children often:
relies on verbal insight
asks children to explain feelings they can’t access yet
addresses behaviour cognitively rather than somatically
This can be helpful for older children but often misses the body component.
The Grinberg Method:
meets the child where they are developmentally
works directly with the nervous system
changes behaviour by changing how discomfort is handled
avoids pathologising or labelling
Why the Grinberg Method works especially well with children
Children are not yet fixed in their coping strategies. Their patterns are still flexible.
By working somatically rather than cognitively, we can help them develop healthier ways of responding before behaviours harden into lifelong habits.
Instead of teaching a child to “control themselves,” we help them:
recognise what is happening in their body
stay present with strong sensations
learn that discomfort can be tolerated and moved through
This builds confidence from the inside out
Parents are present and involved in children sessions for clear communication.
-
I’ve worked with children as young os 3 years old.
The sessions are adapting sessions to age and capacity.
Parents are involved and present in all sessions for clear communication.
-
Sessions are 60 mins to allow time for parent questions and discussion.

Why it’s worth having a session as a parent
It often makes sense for parents themselves to receive sessions. Not because the parent is “the problem,” but because parenting happens through the body, not just the mind.
When a child is dysregulated (angry, anxious, withdrawn, defiant etc) parents respond instinctively through the body; shoulders tighten. Breathing becomes shallow. The jaw clenches. Patience shortens. These reactions are not failures; they are automatic survival responses. But over time, they can turn parenting into a state of constant alert.

Book an intake Session
Please call me on +49 16093174337 if you can’t find a suitable time.
-
Intake Sessions: 90 mins
In the first session, we will get to know each other. The first session also includes an initial diagnosis and a standard treatment, just like any regular session.
Goal: In the first session, you can find out, without obligation, whether the Grinberg Method is right for you.
Follow up sessions: 60 mins
We will begin by discussing any special circumstances and changes since the last session. This will be followed by the regular body-oriented psychotherapy portion. At the end, you will have a few minutes alone to rest.
